Porsche revives slantnose 911 as 691bhp one-off supercar
Porsche has built a one-off 691bhp 911 Flachbau RS, grafting the iconic slanted nose of a 1970s race car onto the GT2 RS bodyshell.
Porsche has created a single, bespoke 691bhp supercar that revives the famous flat, slanted nose of one of the most celebrated race cars in the brand's history, according to multiple reports.
The car is built around the previous-generation 911 GT2 RS, itself already one of the most extreme road cars Porsche has ever produced. Working with longtime tuning and racing partner Manthey, Porsche's in-house Sonderwunsch division, which translates as 'special request', oversaw the project from beginning to end. The entire conversion took three years to complete, despite being focused on a single vehicle.
The centrepiece of the transformation is the 'Flachbau' nose, meaning flat or slanted construction in German. It is a direct tribute to Porsche's legendary 935/78 race car, a machine that earned the nickname 'Moby Dick' on the circuits of the 1970s. Fitting that distinctive nose line to a modern 911 bodyshell was described as one of the principal challenges of the development process, given how much the proportions and engineering of the car have changed over the decades.
