Porsche Cayenne Electric gets 11 kW wireless charging option

Porsche has confirmed that the Cayenne Electric can now be ordered with a wireless charging system, bringing cable-free home and garage charging to its all-electric SUV for the first time as a purchasable option in select markets.

The system works by placing a base plate on the ground beneath the car, which communicates with a charging pad built into the vehicle floor. Power passes between the two components via a magnetic field, so there is no physical connection required. According to multiple reports, the hardware to receive the charge was already built into the Cayenne Electric from the outset, but the external base plate unit has only now been made available for purchase, completing the setup for owners who want it.

The wireless system delivers up to 11 kW, which is the same rate as a standard single-phase AC home wallbox. For a large electric SUV, that is a practical overnight charging speed, and removing the need to plug in each time adds a degree of convenience for drivers who charge regularly at home.

Alongside the wireless charging option, multiple reports note that Porsche has also introduced powered doors, vibrating massage seats, and an expanded choice of 105 paint colours as part of the same update to the Cayenne Electric. The additions give buyers a broader range of comfort and personalisation features to choose from when specifying the car.
