Lexus RX Morizo RR: a high-performance SUV to rival the BMW X5 M

Lexus is believed to be developing a high-performance version of its RX SUV, with multiple reports suggesting the car will carry the Morizo RR name and be developed under the Gazoo Racing performance division responsible for the GR Yaris and GR86.

Prototype images circulating across multiple automotive outlets show a heavily reworked RX with a more aggressive body kit, wider arches and a noticeably lower ride height than the standard car. The visual changes point to a vehicle that has been engineered to perform as well as it looks, rather than simply receiving a cosmetic upgrade.

According to multiple reports, the Morizo RR could produce in the region of 600 horsepower, which would put it directly in the territory occupied by the BMW X5 M and similar high-performance large SUVs from established German manufacturers. No official output figures have been confirmed by Lexus at this stage.

The Morizo name has been used by Toyota and Lexus before as a nod to Akio Toyoda, the former Toyota president who raced under that pseudonym, and its use here suggests the project carries significant backing from within the company. Buyers interested in the segment should be aware that pricing and a production timeline have not been announced, and the car remains at the prototype stage for now.
