Lexus NX goes hybrid only for 2027
Lexus has dropped the petrol-only NX entirely, meaning every version of the popular SUV will now come with some form of hybrid power.
Lexus has confirmed that the 2027 NX will be offered exclusively with hybrid powertrains, with no purely petrol option remaining in the range. According to multiple reports, buyers will choose between the standard self-charging hybrid NX 350h and the plug-in hybrid NX 450h+, and both models receive stronger hybrid systems as part of the update.
For drivers already drawn to the NX, the direction of travel has been clear for some time, but the complete removal of the non-hybrid variant makes the choice more straightforward. The 2027 model also arrives with a tidier four-grade trim structure, which should make comparing specifications less complicated than it has sometimes been with previous Lexus line-ups.
The plug-in hybrid NX 450h+ is reported to gain a larger battery and faster charging capability, meaning drivers who cover shorter journeys on electricity alone may find the car more practical day to day. Richer cabin technology is said to feature across all trim levels rather than being reserved for higher grades, so buyers at every price point benefit from the improved interior.
The changes apply to every NX sold from the 2027 model year onwards. Owners of current petrol or hybrid NX models are unaffected, though the shift does signal the broader direction Lexus is taking its passenger car range.
